RE: a trial period
Generally all hosting provides have a 30-45 days full money back guarantee on all hosting plans except Dedicated servers. This money back is as good a free trial as you can cancel the server within the time frame and ask for a full refund. Refunds won't include the charges of licensed applications like OS, Control panel. Make sure you read their Billing policies before signing up.

RE: a trial period
Generally most hosting companies offer a full money back guarantee for first 30-40 days so if you are not satisfied with their service you can claim a full money back and shift to other hosting company. You can consider this as a trial period. Apart from this, most companies also offer a anytime money back guarantee wherein you are refunded on a pro-rata basis.

RE: a trial period
We do not find Trials as a good way to sign up new customers. People who get trials often do not appreciate the service they use. It is better to grant good didscounts.
